Biology is defined as the scientific study of life. (Campbell Essential Biology) Whether or not something is â€Å"alive† is recognized by their ability to perform actions that living things do. There are seven main properties associated with life, we refer to these as; The Properties of Life. Order, regulation, growth and development, energy processing, response to the environment, reproduction, and evolution; these properties are the basis in which we use to determine whether or not something is â€Å"alive† or â€Å"living.† Cells are the composition of all life. Every living thing on our planet is made up of thousands of cells. Within the properties of life, Order states that all living things exhibit a complex, but ordered organization. Organisms consist of many cells that are highly organized and coordinated. Within each cell, atoms, which are the smallest unit of matter, composes molecules. Molecules in turns develop cell organelles. As more cells develop, these organelles create the elaborate organs within an organism, each of which provides a key function to the organism s day-to-day survival. There are two basic categories in which cells are categorized; prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic cells are known as prokaryotes. Organisms of the prokaryotic domain include bacteria and archaea. In comparison, Eukaryotic cells, also known as eukaryotes, include domains of the protists, plants, fungi and animals. Most of these cases could have been prevented simply by getting a vaccination for certain diseases. There has been much discussion in recent years over whether or not parents should have their children vaccinated. Parents hear a great deal of information in the medi about the effectiveness and side effects of vaccinations. After hearing all sorts of negative things about vaccinations, it is easy to see why parents would be reluctant to have their children injected with all sorts of chemicals.
